Frequently Asked Questions
You know how everyone seems to ask the same questions or make the same comments when encountering someone new? Well, the same is true with media interviews! Sometimes the same questions come up again and again when Rebeca is talking with the media about her scrapbooking novels. Below are a few of those questions. Happy reading!
Q: How did you get the idea to write novels for scrapbookers?
A: About six months after I resigned from Thomas Nelson Publishers, the fiction acquisitions editor moved and realized her new neighbor was a scrapbooker. Out of curiosity, the editor tooled around on the 'Net to figure out what stories were out there for scrappers to read. She found a very, very limited amount of material and saw an opportunity. Knowing that I was both an avid scrapper and writer/lover of stories, she picked up the phone and scheduled a meeting.
The outcome of that first meeting is Prints Charming, the story of four women bound together by their love of scrapping. It's a little like Steel Magnolias, a bit like Desperate Housewives - and a whole lot like the scrapping times I have with my girlfriends!
Q: Are any parts of Prints Charming based on real life?
A: Yes. Hmm, I wonder how revealing I can be since my family will probably read this at some point? Better just move on...
Q: How long did it take to write Prints Charming?
A: The first time? Three months. Then my editor (Karen Ball, you will never live this down, sister) got the bright idea that the book would be much better if it took place a year after its current setting. Um, sure, no problem. But the manuscript was due in 7 days! Ack! How could I re-write nearly an entire book in a week? I thought it was nutso to even try - which explains, of course, why I tried. And, seven days later, turned in an almost completely re-written version of Prints Charming.
Q: When is Sisters, Ink releasing and does it have the same characters as Prints Charming?
A: Sisters, Ink ships from the publishing house in January, so it will be on store shelves in February 2008. While Prints Charming's Jane character makes a cameo appearance, the girls of Prints Charming do not really continue into the storyline of Sisters, Ink.
Q: So, what's Sisters, Ink about?
A: Sisters, Ink is the story of four women who were all adopted into the same family - that of Jack and Marian Sinclair - in the little town of Stars Hill, Tennessee. The sisters are varied in a host of ways. From race to personality, marital status to expressions of faith, these girls are as different from each other as night from day! Yet they're bound by their love of scrapping, a love that was instilled by Marian (Momma) throughout their childhood. Even though Momma has passed on after a fight with breast cancer, the sisters still get together to scrap in Momma's old studio in the attic of the farmhouse. And there, amidst paper and scissors, tape runners and chipboard, they hash out life's happenings over the scrapping table Daddy made so many years ago.
Q: Is Sisters, Ink also a company like you describe in Prints Charming?
A: Yes. When I moved to a new town, it was hard to find the local scrappers. I wanted to create a place where local scrappers could network and talk to scrapping clubs in towns and cities across the nation. That's why I created Sisters, Ink. Hopefully, it will become a place where scrappers connect both online and in person. Because, while I love chatting in forums and posting on e-bulletin boards, I also value my in-person time with girlfriends.
Q: Are there any more books coming out?
A: Yes, there will be one novel every six months beginning with Sisters, Ink. I'm currently contracted for four books in that series with B&H Publishing Group.
Q: Can I get an autographed copy?
A: Yes, if you order your copy through this website or come out to meet me at one of my public appearances. I love meeting readers!
Q: Do you do any public speaking?
A: Yes. I speak to scrapping clubs and groups about journaling and capturing your story. I speak to women's ministry groups about the power of story to transmit Truth and carry the tradition of your faith from generation to generation.
